Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Gets Results In Duluth!
You just launched a beautiful new website, but how do you get more traffic?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the blend of search engine-based internet marketing and business focused relevance targeting. This is a fancy way of saying, “SEO can get you more targeted traffic to your website” Wouldn’t you want to put your business in front of more potential customers?
Of course, you would! Your business provides solutions. How people type in the problem into the search engines can determine how well your site ranks. SEO brings people that are looking for what you do to your website. It’s as simple (and as complex) as that.
SEO is a numbers game, but it works like this- the more visible your website is, the more traffic your site will likely get. The more people that come to your site, the more likely they are to do business with you. Think about how many people are looking for what you do around Duluth right now. We can help them find you, and help get your phone ringing.
SEO Helps Your Business Grow!
Make It Loud has a track record for outstanding results with both national and local SEO campaigns. National campaigns are typically much more difficult because there is much more competition, but we’re happy to help get you ranked locally as well.
Our focus on small to mid-sized businesses targeting local clients has yielded excellent results that have helped many small businesses experience tremendous growth in their business. We have examples of helping local businesses grow to become national companies. Are you ready for more business?
What Is SEO?
There are a lot of business owners who understand that they want to be at the top of the search results, but they don’t know that SEO is even a thing. We’re happy to explain it all.
Ten years ago, when we started doing SEO for our clients, we ran into a lot of SEO “experts” that made it all sound super mysterious, and the truth is, there is a lot of jargon that can get confusing. But, we’re happy to explain it simply for you.
Our definition of SEO is basic. We think SEO is doing the right thing by Google (the biggest search engine on the planet). This means having an excellent website with good content that’s easy for the browser to navigate and understand. That’s where good SEO begins.
In most industries, doing search engine optimization is an ongoing process, but we’ve had situations where just doing a little has helped increase the traffic and visibility for a considerable amount of time.
A Brief Introduction To SEO
Think of where people turn to find solutions to their problems. The Internet. I think it’s safe to say it’s more than a fad.
The fact is that more than 60% of Americans turn to Google to find what they’re looking for- whether that’s a product, a service, something to eat or for entertainment. It’s where your business needs to be seen. Is your business on page one?
If not, you can be sure that your competitors are. This means all the targeted search traffic that you’d like to see your business get is going to them instead. SEO is exactly that- a way of making your website more visible to the search engines so that the very people who are looking for you find and click on your website.
Of course, good SEO begins with a solid website. While more than a third of all websites online now days are built with WordPress, that’s a solid platform to use for your business website. Beyond the platform, it’s important to make sure your website has what your customers are looking for. That’s where your content plays a huge role along with a conversion-focused layout.
Understanding SEO Begins With Understanding How Search Engines Work
Have you ever stopped to think about how Google actually works? Most of us have heard that there is a search “algorithm” that changes all the time, but what exactly is the algorithm?
At Make It Loud, we teach how Google works by making a comparison to the cute little yellow guys or minions. Google has little minions or “spy bots” with cameras that go all around the Internet and take vacation pictures of their trip. These pictures are snapshots of all the websites they’ve visited. They take these vacation photos and put them into a photo album. So, when we search Google, we’re actually only searching those vacation photo albums- not the entire Internet. Is your mind blown?
So, when the minions crawl your site, they have a long list of items they check your site for. Each of these items is weighted differently- in terms of how much they matter regarding your rankings. For the most part, this is what changes when they say the algorithm has changed (although there are times when Google changes something drastically).
All this is important to understand so that you know what’s important to Google. One thing that will most likely never change is the idea that whatever is important to your customers is important to the search engines. It’s a rule of thumb we go by whenever we’re doing SEO for our clients.
Doing SEO On A Bad Website
For many years now, we’ve had a retail shop along a major highway. People often come in and want to talk to us about a wide variety of digital marketing topics which we love. It’s not that unusual to have people come in and want to talk about SEO.
Our process is simple. We bring them back into our conference room and take a look at their present website. We do a fairly quick evaluation to see how well their site is performing. There was a two-month period awhile back where we had 10 people come in asking about SEO. When we looked at their website, none were ready for SEO. Some of the problems included:
- Poorly designed websites
- Saturated industry (real estate, divorce attorneys)
- Website performance issues
SEO can be an incredible marketing vehicle, but there are times when it’s a flat bad idea. For the most part, SEO is a losing proposition for a website that isn’t designed well, had bad coding, is built on a platform that Google doesn’t play well with or has other performance issues.
We don’t accept clients for SEO when we come across situations described above for very simple reasons- it makes no sense! Why take on a project that you can’t win. No pilot alive would try to fly a house (because they’re not built for that purpose!). There are still many websites out there that just aren’t ready for search engine optimization.
How We Do SEO
Once we take on a new client, our digital marketing consultants do everything we can to learn about his or her business- so much so that many of our clients consider us part of their team. We really do strive to be the outsourced marketing arm of their business. We recognize that online marketing is essential for the success of your business.
After an initial consultation which we can either do in person or over the phone (or Skype!), we will help you develop an appropriate digital marketing plan for your business and industry. Together, we’ll outline a strategic plan to help increase the brand awareness of your business. After all, if your customers don’t know you exist, it’s hard for them to pay you to do what you do! We’ll help you assemble all the right pieces of your marketing puzzle.
Search Engine Optimization Made Simple
Once your website is live, can you find it? More importantly, can your customers find you? It’s a simple fact that your website will never make you money if no one can find it. That’s where search engine optimization (SEO) can help.
SEO is the process of getting your website listed on page one of the search engines for relevant keywords and phrases. With SEO, your site is so well optimized that when your potential customers search for what you do, your site is one of the first they see. Imagine your potential customers are panning for gold and they have to sift through all the search results to find you. We make it easy for your next customers to find what they need- you!
SEO helps to increase the visibility of your business which means you’re more likely to get the clicks. More clicks mean more calls. More calls mean more money, and seriously, don’t we all want more money?
We make SEO simple because once you hire us, we do all the work. This includes:
- Keyword Research
- Proper Keyword Placement
- Content Creation
- Proper Site Architecture
- And, a bunch of other stuff that we’ll explain when you call us!
Again, one of the things that separate us from other SEO nerds is that we write content for you- content that we know will help you get noticed.
How Long Does SEO Take?
In the 10 years, we’ve been doing SEO, we’ve heard some pretty outrageous claims about SEO. A few years ago, we were sitting at a networking meeting where one of our competitors claimed he recently got a “plumber’s website ranked for more than 847 keywords in a week”. A friend leaned over and asked, “Is that even possible?”. Let’s just say that if it sounds too good to be true, it more than likely is.
Search engine optimization has a lot to do with expectations. Most SEO companies will tell you that it takes 3-6 months to get your site ranked well. While this isn’t a lie exactly, the truth is that this depends upon things like your industry, your competition and the geographical area you’re trying to rank for. In most cases, we’re able to get results long before the 3-month mark. In fact, it’s extremely rare that we can’t get significant results in a month. We’ve had several national SEO campaigns rank for several hundred keywords across the country within a month after launching. These are results we’re very proud of.

Pick An SEO Company
There are many different companies that say they do SEO, but it’s important to understand a few things about selecting the right SEO company. Lots of SEO nerds will explain what they do in technical terms that sound impressive but don’t move your site up the rankings.
It’s just a fact that SEO nerds can speak nerdy to you. When you ask them what exactly they do to get your website ranked, they reel off a lot of technical terms like “alt tags, H1 tags, page load speeds, schema markup, blah, blah, blah”. Some of it makes sense and some the jargon leaves people scratching their heads.
The thing to keep in mind is that SEO is like putting a 10,000 piece together. The company that puts the most pieces together wins a spot on page one. While most SEO consultants can spout off all the jargon, it doesn’t mean all that stuff actually gets your website to page one.
It’s like going to the doctor’s office. Every doctor can speak medical jargon, but can they explain what’s wrong with you? SEO nerds can blow your mind with terms you don’t understand but don’t actually mean much, so beware the jargon talkers.
Here are some things to consider when picking an SEO firm:
Experience– your business visibility is too important to trust with newbies.
Explanation– can they explain what they’re going to do to get your site ranked?
Educated– are they up on SEO trends and changes.
Content-(we broke the “E” thing, dang it) will they be writing content for you? This is huge.
No one knows exactly what Google is looking for, but at Make It Loud, we’ve figured out enough to get your business results.
At Make It Loud, we understand that Google is looking for the best content about your business to serve up to people looking for it. If your SEO nerd isn’t writing content for you, make sure someone is.
For us, the difference between a good SEO company and a bad SEO company has to do with the content that’s created. Since Google cares a lot about your content, it only makes sense that this is a requirement for good SEO. Amazingly, there are many SEO companies out there that don’t write content for your business.
The team at Make It Loud works hard to understand your business and creates content that will help drive your visibility as well as conversions. Our goal is simple- to increase your bottom line.
